Observer System Redux

Observer (stylised as >observer_) is a psychological horror video game developed by Bloober Team and published by Aspyr. It was released for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in August 2017, followed by versions for Linux, macOS and Nintendo Switch. An upgraded and expanded version called Observer: System Redux was released in November 2020 for Windows, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S, for Amazon Luna in March 2021, and for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in July 2021. Observer follows Daniel Lazarski, a detective known as an Observer, who can hack people's minds as a method of interrogation.

Perhaps the most obvious improvements in Observer: System Redux are those made to its graphics. Characters now look far more realistic than ever before thanks to fresh models, enhancing the film noir atmosphere. Meanwhile, higher quality environmental textures and animations help to make the world more compelling visually. The ray tracing effects are particularly impressive, giving every surface an authentic reflection, and the fresh lighting system helps add extra contrast to locations. Ultimately, the visuals make this an even better looking game that begs to be explored.

Having never experienced 4K resolution or ray-tracing, I was eager to see what those concepts meant on my next-gen console. Seeing a dark cyberpunk game lean into doing just that obviously excited me. Thus, it also carried an element of being a tech demo for the new systems.

Parents need to know that Observer: System Redux is an expanded remake of the original >observer_ game and is available for download on Xbox Series XS, PlayStation 5, and Windows based PCs. The game's a sci-fi psychological horror story set in a dystopian future. It features some intense scenes of violence, which includes graphic visuals of decapitations, disembowelments, flaying, and more. Drug use is also prevalent, as it's also a focal point of the society and setting of the plot. Profanity is frequently used in the dialogue, including "f--k" and "s--t," and there are a number of sexual references and imagery that show up over the course of the adventure.
