Bullet Train (2022)
October 27, 2022 -- On the third day of the investment and trade mission to Japan, Mayor Sylvester Turner, Greater Houston Partnership President/CEO Bob Harvey, and members of the delegation learned more about the Japanese company that is the model for plans to develop a bullet train in Texas.
Bullet Train (2022)
The engagement began with a Texas Central update on the status of the proposed Houston - Dallas bullet train project. Representatives explained that the landscape changed since March 2022, when the company underwent a restructuring effort, and the future of the high-speed train remains bright. Texas Central has assembled a world-class team to construct the system and reached regulatory milestones.
Following the briefing, the delegation connected with Japan Central Railway for an exclusive tour of the Shinkansen control and training centers, followed by a ride on the bullet train from Tokyo to Mishima, Japan. Over the Shinkansen's 50-plus-year history, carrying over 10 billion passengers, there has not been a single passenger fatality or injury on board due to train derailments or collisions, according to the JRC.
"Many of us were very supportive of the high-speed train before we came here, and what we have seen has reinforced our position. In Texas, it can be transformational and an economic stimulant for the entire state. It is an idea whose time has come for Texas and the United States. It would help improve transportation and mobility, and if people could ride it now, they would be convinced of the benefits for their families and the business community," said Mayor Turner. "We had some very productive and constructive discussions about the train in Japan. The leadership in Houston is very supportive and wants it to happen. I look forward to working with Texas Central and our state and federal partners to advance this project. If you build it, people will take full advantage of it."
Bullet Train is an action-packed romp that takes place on a train filled with deadly assassins. It's got an all-star cast, with Brad Pitt as the frontman, and it has been delighting audiences this summer. It has just as many laughs as it does thrills, and we loved the ride from start to finish.
In theory, it's a simple job. Board the train, snatch the briefcase and get off. Of course, things don't quite go as planned, and Ladybug finds himself trapped on a train full of assassins each with connected and conflicting motives.
At the center of Bullet Train, Ladybug (Brad Pitt) returns to work as a snatch-and-grab criminal-for-hire - after a lengthy sabbatical of soul-searching and anger management interventions. Filling in for a coworker, who was struck sick with a stomach bug, Ladybug is charged with boarding one of Japan's high-speed transport trains to steal a briefcase. Simple enough - until Ladybug discovers he's not the only contracted asset onboard. As the train barrels toward Kyoto, Ladybug stumbles into one altercation after another in an effort to escape and/or learn who picked him, and a cavalcade of underworld lowlifes, to board the same train - and for what purpose.
Bullet Train is bursting with other scene-stealing appearances from well-known actors, including Bad Bunny (playing The Wolf), Andrew Koji (playing Kimura), Michael Shannon (playing The White Death), and Hiroyuki Sanada (playing The Elder), along with a number of perfectly-timed cameos that are sure to get a laugh out of viewers. Still, despite a diverse cast, the film has been criticized for whitewashing a number of key roles from Kōtarō Isaka's novel. In the context of the movie's world, there is a noticeably strange proportion of non-Asian background characters on the train from Tokyo to Kyoto. It's not a dealbreaker for minute-to-minute enjoyment of Leitch's story, but it's certainly a missed opportunity to populate Bullet Train's lead cast with Asian actors in a movie based on a Japanese novel that's still set in Japan.
For moviegoers who are interested in premium formats, Bullet Train is also playing on IMAX screens. That said, an upgraded ticket is not essential for Leitch's latest movie. The film is stuffed with eye-popping choreography and several set pieces will benefit from a high-quality visual and sound setup, especially Bullet Train's outrageous and visually-stunning climax; nevertheless, the movie is still set inside a train for 95% of its runtime and there's only so much that performance formats can enhance.
1. Please take your Japan Rail Pass to any JR Ticket Office (Midori-no-madoguchi), spread through all Japanese train stations. Alternatively, go to a Travel Service Center or a Travel Agency ticket sales office.
2. Once at the ticket office, you will be asked about your destination and preferred departure time. You can also look up the train times in advance, or get help from one of the friendly staff members to find the best option for your trip.

Hi Tantra! Hello Kitty Shinkansen is extremely popular and thus we recommend you to book your seats as soon as you reach Japan. To travel from the Kansai Airport to the city of Osaka, board the Limited Express Haruka at the Kansai Airport Station using your Japan Rail Pass. Take the Haruka to Shin-Osaka Station, a journey of about one hour. At Shin-Osaka, transfer to a local train to Osaka Station. The trip from Shin-Osaka to Osaka takes only three to four minutes.
To reserve your seat please take your Japan Rail Pass to any JR Ticket Office (Midori-no-madoguchi), spread through all Japanese train stations. Alternatively, go to a Travel Service Center or a Travel Agency ticket sales office.

Hi Eugene! The Japan Rail Pass is a multi-use all-you-can-ride discounted rail ticket. It gives you unlimited access to all Japan Rail National trains, as well as JR bus services, ferry services, and airport transfers. Validity can either be 7, 14 or 21 consecutive days, and thus it is not possible to have a Japan Rail Pass for one single day.
